PE Days -Wednesday - Swimming/ Thursday PE in School
As you may be aware, Year 4 pupils across the country are expected to take part in a Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. This is a digital test issued by the Government where children will have 6 seconds to answer a multiplication question, with 25 questions in total. Although there is no official pass mark for the check, we are advised that 20/25 is a good goal for children to aim towards. Many children are already achieving this, which is fantastic, however it is important to keep practising so that these skills are not lost.
Why do the children need to take this test? All year 4 pupils in England will take the check. The Government made the check compulsory in 2022. They say:
The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics. It will help schools to identify pupils who have not yet mastered their times tables, so that additional support can be provided.
What are we doing to help? Children can access TTRS club on Wednesday Lunchtimes, for children who are not practising at home, this is compulsory. We will also be doing an MTC practice every day from now until the check, as well as our usual Friday morning times tables grid.
What can you do to help? TTRS soundcheck mode is set up in the same style as the MTC (6 seconds per question) which makes it a useful tool.

We will also be sending home a times tables sheet. This doesn’t have to be completed all in one go, a few questions each day is great. All homework for the next 5 weeks is times tables practice.
Kind Regards,
Y4 Team
