At Manston Primary School, our priority is to ensure that pupils continue to access meaningful learning if they are unable to attend school in person. Where pupils cannot attend due to exceptional circumstances, we provide a structured and supportive remote education offer that links closely to classroom learning.
Remote education may be provided for individual pupils, groups or whole classes where attendance at school is not possible for a short period. This may include situations where pupils are unable to attend for health or other agreed reasons.
Where absence is unexpected, pupils may be provided with a short-term learning pack. This is designed to ensure continuity of learning while a more tailored remote offer is prepared. These materials may include paper-based tasks and links to online learning platforms already used in school. Where possible, resources will also be made available on the school website.
For longer periods of absence affecting a class, group or individual pupil, teachers will prepare a remote learning package that reflects pupils’ most recent learning, age and current curriculum focus.
This provision may include:
Directed activities using established online learning platforms
Links to specific lessons or sequences from nationally recognised providers, such as Oak National Academy or BBC Bitesize
Pre-recorded teaching inputs or short explanation videos
Paper-based learning packs, available online or for collection where appropriate
Occasional live or interactive sessions to introduce learning, provide feedback and maintain contact with pupils
Remote learning will focus on core curriculum areas and will be designed to support pupils to rejoin classroom learning smoothly when they return to school.
Where individual pupils are unable to attend school, work will be set that links as closely as possible to what is being taught in class. Due to the nature of remote learning and the age of our pupils, it may not always be possible for pupils to complete identical work to their peers in school. However, tasks will be carefully chosen to ensure continuity and readiness to return.
School staff will communicate with parents and carers to explain expectations and provide guidance on supporting learning at home.
The school recognises that access to devices and the internet can vary. Where available, additional technology may be provided to support pupils learning at home. These resources will be prioritised for disadvantaged pupils and those with the greatest need.
During periods of remote education, class teachers will remain contactable via email to answer questions, clarify tasks and provide support. We value regular communication with families and aim to work in partnership to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing.
The school uses a range of established online platforms to support learning at home, including resources for reading, phonics, spelling, grammar and maths. Links to these platforms are available on the school website and are used regularly to support both in-school and remote learning.
