Stage 2 - Remote Learning

Dear Parents\ Carers,

Staff have been working hard to create Stage 2 of our remote learning plan. All documents and details of each classes’ remote learning can now be found on the website by following this link and selecting their class star. Paper copies of work packs can be collected from the school office from this afternoon.

A remote learning timetable for each class will set out the learning and make clear what is being taught when. It will also contain links to other remote contents from Oak Academy, the BBC, Teams meetings and other online resources.

We have found for isolating classes that this mixture of learning offers the best support for all our pupils and also allows parents and carers some flexibility. While we have set out a wider curriculum for our pupils based on each classes’ current curriculum (with some adaptations), we understand that parents may need to prioritise the support they give to their children in present circumstances. This is best done by focusing on the daily Teams sessions and the completion of the maths and English activities shared.

Stage Two of Remote Learning

Stage two is made up of:

  • Paper based activities (can be collected from the school office, or accessed from the school website)
  • Links to online lessons from Oak Academy and BBC Bitesize
  • Live Teams sessions daily (details below)
  • Other online activities – TT Rockstars, Numbots, Readtheory, Bug Club and SPaG.com

If you need any support with remote learning or have any questions, please email your child’s class teacher for this. In the first Teams meeting on Thursday 7th January, staff will run through individual timetables with pupils (and parents/carers if you are able to join us also) and discuss the learning for each day. Additionally, we can give time each following day for pupils to ask questions and feedback on the work they have undertaken and any issues they have had. Our experience of running these sessions in the Autumn term is that they quickly develop a rhythm and structure of their own that will become familiar to the pupils.

The plans now in place cover the remainder of this week and next week. New plans and activities will be developed by staff for the week beginning Monday 18th January 2021 and run for the next 2 weeks. We will aim to share this with parents on or before Friday 15th January 2021. We will be reviewing and adapting our plans with the aim of making them as accessible and beneficial as possible to all our pupils. Please appreciate that it may be necessary to change or adapt our plans for a range of reasons.

You will use this same link for each session.

Please be aware these sessions have been carefully planned to avoid siblings having overlapping sessions and to avoid sibling sessions running immediately after each other.

You do not need to use any specific accounts to join these meetings, just a device connected to the internet. Please see yesterday's email for details of a test meeting running at 14:00 today. By following the above link, you will be able to use the online version of Teams and see individual staff and other children who are speaking. To enable the viewing of multiple people/children, download the free Teams app for your computer, phone, or tablet. More information on this can be found here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/group-chat-software   . If you are using a mobile device reliant on a data plan, we may be able to help you access additional data from your current provider free of charge to facilitate remote leaning. Please contact school to discuss this.

Key Worker and Vulnerable Pupils (KW/V)

We have today begun our provision for KW/V pupils. Thank you for all your support in getting this set up quickly and safely. Pupils who are in school on a given day will complete the same work as those who are at home working remotely and join the same Teams sessions each day to engage with the live teaching for their class. On the days they are not in school they will still need to follow the timetable to keep pace with the classes’ remote learning.

As shift patterns and home situations change for KW pupils, please keep us informed. While we have so far been able to meet demand for places, we are at our capacity for providing a safe provision for these pupils and delivering high quality remote learning to all pupils. If it is in any way possible to reduce pupils’ attendance at school, please let us know immediately- as this will help to keep everyone safe and help us to keep focused on learning and supporting all pupils at this time.

Free School Meals

Food hampers (for free school meal pupils) will be in school for collection from Wednesday 13th January 2021, please collect hampers from the school office. In school we have some emergency provisions for any family who are in need. Please contact Miss Thorpe if you are in need of any assistance regarding food.

School Laptops

School has an extremely limited number of laptops that can be used to support remote learning. If your child does not have access to a suitable device, please contact us to arrange to borrow one of these. We are currently compiling a list of requests so that we can allocate these based on need as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

James Clay
